Littoral zone

The littoral zone is the shoreline region of a lake or pond where sunlight reaches the bottom and rooted aquatic plants can grow — typically the inner margin of the water body to a depth of 4–8 ft depending on water clarity. Most aquatic vegetation management activity (and most aquatic-invasive infestations) occur in the littoral zone. Healthy littoral zones support fish spawning, wading-bird foraging, and shoreline stabilization.
